Recently in Year 4

Every week we have been going swimming, the children have enjoyed learning new swimming skills and improving their confidence in the water. We have been delighted with how well everyone has progressed.

Rural life Museum

We had a brilliant trip to Glastonbury where we visited the Rural Life Museum to learn about the Anglo Saxons and Vikings. The children represented the school really well, we were really proud of them. The children thoroughly enjoyed painting Albert's Jewel and making Runes out of clay, which the Anglo Saxons used for writing.

World Book Day!

The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character for world book day.

Design Technology

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our sewing learning journey. The task was to make a sail for a model Viking longboat. The children took part in this learning journey:

1. First we researched Viking longboat sails.

2. Next we made a prototype sail.

3. After that we practiced the sewing skills that we would need to use – the running stitch.

4. Then we designed a sail for a Viking longboat.

5. Next we made a longship sail.

6. Finally we evaluated our work.

Pete the Poet visits Westover Green

Year 4 took part in an equality and diversity poetry workshop with Pete the Poet on Wednesday 16th March. Music and poetry were combined with interactive stories and costumes to create a magical experience for everyone involved. The children and their teachers took part in multiple activities that enabled them to dress up, dance, pretend to travel the world, speak different languages and use a variety of musical instruments. The children took part in stories from Botswana, India and Russia that promoted and celebrated team work, equality and diversity.
