"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way." - Frank Smith –

Westover Green is a multicultural school. 25% of our pupils (104) come from different countries and heritages from around the globe. We promote and celebrate diversity and recognise the positive impact another language can have on a child’s learning and school community.

We strongly believe that children should continue to use and develop their native language alongside English, being bilingual is a SUPERPOWER because the more languages you know, the more open and adaptable to the world and its diversity you are.

The European Day of Languages

Historically, Westover Green School has celebrated the European Day of Languages doing many class activities to introduce children to the notion of Europe, and the countries and languages of the continent.

At this point there are 15 languages spoken in our school and it was fantastic to be able to highlight what we can learn from bilingual and polylingual children and adults within our school. The highlight of the day was the whole school assembly where EAL children demonstrated their talents and shared songs, dances, language and culture of their country with us all.

Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!
